Does changing your macro split help you lose more body fat?
No macro split stood out for fat loss in this study; about 73% of the lost weight came from fat in each group.
The report compared three eating styles over five months. People in the study had obesity and signs of poor metabolic health. The plan covered their usual habits, weight loss, and keeping the lost weight off. Researchers used body scans to measure Body Fat Percentage before the diets and five months later.
The diets had different balances of Carbohydrates, Protein Intake, and Dietary Fat. Yet no diet showed a clear edge for losing fat or keeping muscle. The 73% figure describes the share of lost weight that was fat. It does not mean people lost 73% of their body fat.
Researchers also tested how well the body responded to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps manage blood sugar. They looked at responses in both muscles and the liver. But the supplied excerpt does not give those results. It also leaves out the exact diet ratios and group sizes. So this finding cannot tell us which split best supports blood sugar control.
For our Macro Tracking community, this puts the focus on results rather than a winning ratio. Food logs alongside Weight and body scan trends can give members more context. Comparing notes over similar time spans may be more useful than comparing target ratios alone. These group results also do not prove every split works equally for everyone.
What changes have you noticed in your own numbers when trying different macro splits?
